Why does the date not show up on my blogs? Anybody got a clue?

I have a clue, but only a clue. Go to your dashboard, then layout tab. That should be the fancy place where you can arrange, add, and subtract your page elements. Click edit on the "Blog Post" element. That should bring up several "check box" options, one of which will be a date. Perhaps when you changed your layout, this setting was disabled. Let me know if this helps.
I'm thinking it is something with your new layout. Just a guess though. Some of those don't have all the features that others do...
